Where the figures come from

Unsafe Airspace: common questions

Is it safe to fly over the Middle East?

Check the table above: it lists every country where EASA currently warns airlines about conflict, and whether it advises not flying at all or taking care. Your airline plans routes around these warnings.

Can planes fly over Ukraine or Russia?

EASA advises airlines not to fly over Ukraine at all, and not to fly over the part of Russia west of 60 degrees east. UK and EU airlines are also banned from Russian airspace.

What is a Conflict Zone Information Bulletin?

A warning EASA issues to airlines when fighting, air defences or missiles put aircraft at risk in a country’s airspace. Each one says where, at what heights and how long it lasts.

Does this mean my flight is cancelled?

No. Airlines route around these areas, which can make flights longer. Check with your airline about your own flight.

How often is this page updated?

Every six hours from EASA’s published list. EASA issues and renews bulletins as conflicts change.
