Strikes on Ukraine: common questions

How many drones did Russia launch last night?

The latest night’s figures are at the top of the list above, with the number shot down. They update every five minutes as reports come in.

What is a Shahed drone?

An Iranian-designed attack drone that Russia now builds itself, also called the Geran-2. Russia launches them in large numbers, often with decoys, to wear down Ukraine’s air defences.

Where do the figures come from?

Ukraine’s air force publishes figures each morning and news reports quote them. An AI model reads the numbers from those reports. Russia does not publish its own, and neither side’s claims can be checked independently.

Why are some figures missing?

Not every report gives every figure. A dash means no report gave it.

How is this tracker made?

Every five minutes the server reads news searches in English and Ukrainian. An AI model (Claude Haiku) keeps only reports with figures for one attack, and reads the date and numbers. Reports on the same night are grouped, taking the highest figure given. The AI can be wrong, so every report links to its publisher.
